Meet the Musicians

  • Dean Aulogia

    Newburgh, NY native, Dean Aulogia grew up in a musical family and chose the trombone in part because 'that slide thing looks cool.' After high school, Aulogia attended Ithaca College, where he played lead trombone in one of the College's two esteemed jazz ensembles. While in college, Aulogia performed for two summers at Busch Gardens in Wiliamsburg Va., performing in the German Festhaus Band and the Starlight Orchestra(jazz). In addition to trombone, Aulogia plays electric bass and has played in a number of rock and funk bands as well. However, his musical 'first love' of jazz trombone and his desire to work with talented friends have inspired the birth of Quarter to Four. A music educator by profession, Aulogia has taught for over 25 years in both the Newburgh, NY and Cornwall, NY school systems.

  • Bill Beveridge

    Bill's piano playing is influenced by a number of musical styles. They include: Jazz, Classical, Motown, Disco and Funk. He finds inspiration in all of them. Artists of considerable influence are: Johann Sebastian Bach, Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Tommy Flanagan, Herbie Hancock. Teachers of note, Dorothy Taubman, John Esposito. For Bill, playing and studying piano is of paramount importance. It is his anchor intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. Playing music is a family tradition. His father, in particular, was always at the piano.

    After graduating from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in music, he joined the "Whippets", a Jazz Fusion group. Locally, this group proved to be a popular and influential performing act. The "Whippets" were active from 1979- 1985. 

    In 1985 Bill targeted into a career as a public school music teacher. Band Directing was his Forte. Having retired from teaching a few years ago Bill keeps busy playing in a variety of musical groups. Latest in this realm is his involvement with "Quarter To Four". He looks forward to creating some great sounds with this fine assembly of musicians.

  • Paul Carroll

    Paul Carroll is a percussionist and educator living in Highland, NY.  Paul has been teaching music at Newburgh Free Academy since 2003. He has performed with prestigious groups from the NY area such as the Group for Contemporary Music, the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, Composers’ Concordance, Ensemble 21, Pulse Percussion Ensemble, and the Princeton Composer’s Ensemble. Paul studied in Copenhagen, Denmark with percussionist Bent Lylloff. While living in Denmark, he performed with the Athelas Ensemble and the Ensemble Figura.  

    Paul has worked closely with many composers and has had compositions dedicated to him including, “Sit Down Stand Up” by Robert Pollock, “Ritual” by Peter Zaparinuk and most recently “Drums Are Cool” by Peter Jarvis.  During 2009, Paul performed a series of solo percussion recitals and workshops in Hawaii. Paul Carroll can be heard on many recordings including the 2008 release of Charles Wuorinen’s, The Dante Trilogy on Naxos. Most recently, Paul has performed and recorded with indie rock band, The Sweet Clementines.  Paul Carroll was honored to have studied with percussion pioneers, Raymond DesRoches and Bent Lylloff as well as the legendary jazz drummer, Joe Morello.

  • Piet Koster

    Piet was influenced musically at a young age through his parents love of music. His mother was an opera singer. He studied classical piano and violin in his formative years.

    Later in life he was encouraged by Jerry Patterson to pick up the bass. He studied with Lynn Seaton, Ron Smith, and Chris Sullivan. Vocal training with Jim Carson.

    Piet sings the jazz standards from The American Songbook and performs with many jazz and blues groups in the Hudson Valley.

  • Barton Schindler

    Barton graduated with a degree in Studio Music and Jazz from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. He credits much of his musical development to his college professors: Gary Keller, Gary Campbell, Gary Lindsay, Ron Miller, and Whit Sidener. As a saxophonist, has a wide range of musical experience, covering many styles of music including jazz, rock, pop, funk, and big band. He plays the flute, clarinet, and oboe, and has performed in the pit orchestras of many musical theatre productions. He also plays the string instruments, and teaches Orchestra in the Goshen Central School District. He has performed with The Glenn Miller Orchestra and Jimmy Sturr Orchestra. In addition to his work with Quarter to four, he performs with Uncle Shoehorn and The Dark Horses.
